Day 2

Hi there!

We hit the road this morning about 9 AM to head for Nashville, TN. On our way to Nashville we saw a sign for a state park, so we thought it would be a good idea to swing by and let Recon run around. This was about 11 AM and it just began to flurry ... at lease where we were. We ended up following a windy backroad and just about the time we were going to turn around, we saw a sign for the state park. So we decided to go up the road, well it ended up being a "scenic route" through the Mountains of Tennessee... and as we climbed the mountain, the snow began to fall faster and the road began to wind more and more. Once we found a safe area to turn around, we had already climbed to the top of the mountain. Slowly going back down in 1st gear, it seemed like forever. Good thing Austin is a good driver :) We ended up getting down safe and pulling over for a quick break for Pup.

We continued on to Nashville and drove past both the Grand Ole Opry and Country Music Hall of Fame. We didn't end up doing tours because the snow was falling harder and we wanted to get to Memphis. Amanda was driving down I40 and it seemed as though every mile a car had spun out and was off the road. We even saw a pick - up flipped over (Austin got a picture)

Finally making it to Natchez State Park, we stopped and ran around/threw the stick. It was about 19 degrees out and snowing ... so we didn't hang out too long. It was a pretty place though!

Finally we arrived in Memphis and checked into our hotel. After unpacking the car and getting Recon settled we went out in search for Memphis BBQ and found a place called "Corkys". Enjoyed dinner and an ice cold beer and now are getting ready for our journey tomorrow.

Day 1

Hey everyone!

We left home at 7:30 AM, after saying goodbye to both of our parents. We headed straight towards I81 South where we made our first morning stop at Natural Bridge in Lexington, VA. At first we were told that dogs were not allowed (the ticket lady) because the one path that they were allowed on, was closed due to icicles. This also meant that they were not allowing anyone to walk under the bridge. So we drove about 5 miles up the road and let Recon run around and play to get his energy out so we could walk down to the bridge:

We walked down to the Natural Bridge, bummed that Recon couldn't join us - so we took a few quick photos:

We ended up asking the park ranger if our dog could come back and he said "of course." So we walked back up the 137 steps to the car and got Recon. Pup enjoying his time at the Natural Bridge:

After the Natural Bridge we headed towards Tennesse and crossed the boarder. Naturally a photo was taken of the state line :) We headed towards Knoxville to go to Great Smokey Mountains National Park but didn't arrive until about 3:30. After talking with the park ranger we were still about an hour and a half away from the park and it was close to sunset. We ended up finding a local place called Douglas Dam. We hung out for an hour, playing and hiking.

We ate dinner at Applebees (original I know...) and are now curled up in bed. We hope to go to Great Smokey Mtns tomorrow morning before continuing on our trip. But they are calling for close to 14 inches of snow tonight in the mountains! We will see :)
